This is our signature geranium leaf printed ticking calico, available in three colourways. It works perfectly as an interior lining cloth for curtains, upholstery or layered within a stronger fabric collection to help things settle. A warm brown on ecru base.

Why Ticking when it’s not a stripe? Derived from the Dutch word ’tike’ referring to a tightly woven heavy-duty utility fabric designed to act as a barrier. Not necessarily the traditional ‘stripe' we all know it as today, which has adopted its name from the household mattress upholstery. Historically, upholsterers would personalise their 'ticking calico' with their own makers mark, using natural dye and a hand carved wooden hand block.

• For the first couple of washes, place the fabric in the washing machine drum with a handful of table salt. This will help fix the dye to prevent it running.
• Wash at 30 degrees with a non bio detergent. Do not tumble. Shake out and dry flat. Note this fabric has had a ‘mill wash’.
• As all computer monitors show colours differently, we recommend ordering a sample of the cloth to check it is the right colour and weight for your project.
